The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mathematics equips students to comprehend intricate patterns and structures while cultivating analytical methods to examine them. These patterns may pertain to physical, biological phenomena or mathematical frameworks themselves, with the core objective being to characterize, classify, and comprehend the underlying processes. Mathematics students will gain analytical skills, precise logical reasoning, and deductive capabilities essential for investigating these captivating research domains. The program is available at Honours level through both the Faculty of Science (BSc) and Faculty of Arts (MA). Science-oriented applicants or those wishing to combine Mathematics with science disciplines at St Andrews should opt for the BSc, while the MA may better suit those interested in pairing Mathematics with Arts subjects. This four-year BSc (Hons) program is administered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics, which also provides an MA in Mathematics for arts-focused students. Notably, the Mathematics curriculum is identical across both degree paths. During the initial two years, students strengthen fundamental mathematical competencies and revisit core concepts (including complex numbers, matrices, vectors, and differential equations) to prepare for advanced Honours-level specialization.
