This program offers an in-depth exploration of Physics and Astronomy (Gateway) at a research-intensive level, where students learn how knowledge is developed, expanded, and refreshed. It fosters independent learning among all participants, promoting curiosity, precision, academic integrity, and rigorous thinking. Spanning 48 months, the course culminates in a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules, requiring students to complete 480 credits—typically 120 per academic year. The initial two years focus on core program-specific modules alongside elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary Faculty choices). The final years emphasize advanced, research-driven education through specialized curriculum modules. The first two years combine mandatory program courses with selected electives (potentially from other Faculties), while the latter years concentrate on tailored, research-oriented studies.
