Acquire the expertise and specialized knowledge needed to become a certified science educator, focusing on physics, chemistry, or biology, through this PGCE Secondary program. The course combines school placements with academic study at the University of Southampton, preparing you to teach students aged 11 to 16. This qualification enables you to teach in state-maintained and special schools across England and Wales. Through this Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), you'll enhance your subject mastery to become a proficient secondary science teacher aligned with the UK's National Curriculum. While specializing in one discipline, you'll graduate capable of teaching all three sciences (physics, chemistry, and biology), including advanced levels for post-16 learners. The program blends pedagogical theory with hands-on practice, including two practical school placements.

Youll need:
a 2:2 degree (UK honours degree or equivalent) in a science subject
GCSEs (minimum grade 4/C) in English language and maths
If you don't have the required GCSEs we'll ask you at the offer stage to take equivalency tests. You'll need to cover the cost of the tests yourself.
Classroom experience or evidence of working with young people may strengthen your application.
If your science qualifications dont meet our requirements, we might ask you to attend a Science Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course as an offer condition.
