Discover how to decode the mysteries of ancient lives by examining human and animal skeletal remains. This specialized master's program in bioarchaeology provides in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, with full access to our extensive bone collection. You'll also master faunal analysis techniques, utilizing one of the UK's most comprehensive reference collections of mammals, birds, and fish. Your bioarchaeology training will include: examining human bones to determine age, gender, diet, health, and migration patterns, recognizing species through skeletal evidence, studying fossilization processes and bone alterations, and interpreting archaeological findings from remains collections. The program offers a 4-week practical placement to apply your skills, giving you hands-on experience in archaeology and heritage organizations. Past students have worked with institutions like Historic England, Wessex Archaeology, and The Nautical Archaeology Society.
