The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Web Science Innovation provided a comprehensive four-year iPhD program in Web Science, designed to equip graduates with interdisciplinary skills to emerge as pioneers in the Digital Economy. This program blended Masters and Doctoral studies with customized training and partnerships with industry collaborators, supported by funding from both the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the University.
Launched in 2009, the curriculum featured a full-time, one-year MSc in Web Science, delivering foundational knowledge of web technologies and their societal implications. Students then progressed to three years of PhD research, supervised by faculty across multiple disciplines. The program accommodated diverse academic interests spanning Computer Science, Law, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Humanities, Business, Medicine, Education, and Geography.
