A Master's by Research program enables you to undertake an independent, supervised research project on a topic of your choosing that meets approval. Upon completion, you'll submit a thesis not exceeding 40,000 words. Like all research degrees, assessment involves two stages: thesis evaluation followed by an oral examination. You can pursue this degree either full-time or part-time, either on-campus or remotely, depending on your research requirements. The program duration is one year for full-time students or two years part-time, and it's offered across most academic disciplines. Since the Master's by Research focuses solely on research, there are no scheduled classes. Full-time candidates should dedicate approximately 35 hours weekly to independent study, while part-time students commit around 12 hours. Each postgraduate researcher receives guidance from a supervisory team with relevant expertise to support their academic journey. Your supervisors will assist in refining your research proposal, provide ongoing feedback, and mentor you through to successful completion.
