This program provides comprehensive training in all engineering fields related to structures and their supporting systems, while cultivating architectural principles and methodologies. You'll acquire practical industry exposure alongside your academic learning.
Through this curriculum, you'll explore every engineering specialty connected to construction projects and urban systems, building expertise in both architectural theory and real-world application.

The industry urgently needs building systems engineers with cross-disciplinary capabilities bridging engineering and architectural domains. You'll develop into a socially conscious professional with comprehensive problem-solving skills, prepared to design sustainable structures that minimize ecological impact.

Between your third and fourth years, you'll complete a professional placement within an engineering firm. This practical experience - whether on-site, in-office, or a blend of both - will reinforce your classroom knowledge, sharpen your abilities, and boost your career opportunities. While you'll need to secure your own position, our dedicated career support teams will guide you in finding suitable roles and maximizing this valuable experience.

Your third year features an intensive Integrated Design Project semester. This ambitious undertaking challenges you to conceptualize a complete urban renewal initiative for an actual Sheffield location. You'll explore innovative design approaches and construction materials while developing sophisticated plans for projects like sustainable high-rises, aesthetically striking bridges, or cutting-edge athletic facilities. This immersive experience provides crucial project management skills and exposes you to real-world professional challenges.
