The need for building systems engineers with cross-disciplinary expertise bridging engineering and architecture continues to grow. This program integrates coursework from all engineering fields related to structures and their supporting systems, while also offering insights into architectural theory and application.
Throughout this program, you'll explore every engineering discipline connected to buildings and infrastructure while gaining knowledge of architectural principles and methodologies.

Industry demand is rising for building systems engineers capable of applying diverse skills where engineering meets architecture. You'll develop into an engineer who values social responsibility and comprehensive approaches, preparing to design superior buildings with minimal environmental impact throughout your career.

In your third year, you'll undertake a full-semester Integrated Design Project. This ambitious project challenges you to conceptualize a complete urban renewal plan for an actual Sheffield location, allowing creative expression on a large scale. You'll explore innovative design techniques and construction materials while creating detailed plans for structures like sophisticated bridges, eco-conscious high-rises, or cutting-edge athletic facilities. This experience provides essential project exposure and insight into real-world professional challenges.
