Complete a paid work placement year as an integral part of your degree program. By incorporating a placement year with our MBiolSci course, you'll acquire valuable industry experience before returning to the lab for an additional year of advanced research training during your fourth year.
Our five-year MBiolSci program is structured to provide optimal preparation for careers in both industrial and academic research. You'll merge the research-intensive integrated masters with a year-long, salaried professional placement as a degree component.
Regardless of whether your passion lies in organisms and ecosystems, biomedicine, molecular biosciences, or a combination of all three, you'll enjoy the flexibility to select subjects across biology's diverse spectrum starting from your first year.
You'll explore modules covering all biological system scales - from biotechnology, cellular biology, genetics, microbiology and biochemistry to biomedicine, neuroscience, human health and disease, as well as biodiversity, evolution, sustainability and climate change. Over half of our biology students currently study modules spanning this comprehensive range of biological disciplines.
You'll have opportunities to conduct original research projects in our laboratories, utilizing cutting-edge equipment for stem cell analysis, DNA sequencing, cellular or landscape imaging. You might investigate organism and population growth patterns or examine proteins and enzymes.
Alternatively, you could pursue field research projects in the Peak District National Park or participate in exceptional field courses either domestically or internationally. Leverage our NHS partnerships to conduct groundbreaking cancer and aging research in collaboration with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
