This program allows you to explore biological structures and functions across multiple scales, ranging from molecular interactions to entire ecosystems. Your initial year focuses on core bioscience principles, establishing a strong base for advanced study. In the second year, you can concentrate on specific areas like animal biology and ecology, cellular and molecular sciences, or infection and immunity. You may also opt for interdisciplinary modules covering analytical biochemistry, cellular microbiology, or neuroscience. The final year deepens your expertise in your selected specialization through advanced topics such as pharmacology, genetics, and human environmental impacts, culminating in a research project that showcases your practical, analytical, and presentation abilities.
Fieldwork opportunities extend beyond campus to locations like Birdworld, the Natural History Museum, and the Millennium Seedbank, where you'll apply scientific techniques in real-world settings. Our state-of-the-art £12.5 million Innovation for Health Learning Laboratory features cutting-edge equipment and interactive displays that guide you through experimental procedures and scientific protocols.
The facility enables diverse investigations, from examining biotechnological microorganisms and disease-causing pathogens to analyzing cellular composition and genetic regulation. You'll gain hands-on experience starting with your first practical experiment within the opening fortnight of the course.
