Explore modern creative writing techniques while honing your abilities across diverse genres and forms. Focus on poetry, fiction, or both, and refine your craft through hands-on workshop experiences.
You'll examine current creative writing approaches while building expertise in various genres, hybrid forms, and innovative stylistic experiments. Through interactive workshops and analysis of contemporary texts, you'll cultivate both your creative output and critical perspective.

The program encourages you to complete all four core creative writing modules (with a minimum requirement of three), which interconnect thematically and methodologically to foster cross-genre exploration and literary innovation.

Your studies culminate in a final dissertation project. Throughout the course, you'll compile portfolios containing both creative pieces and critical analyses, which may include poetry, short fiction, novel excerpts, experimental hybrids, or multimedia works.

This MA program cultivates publishable-quality writing within a supportive, intellectually stimulating environment that encourages bold experimentation with contemporary literary forms. Through workshop participation, you'll learn to thoughtfully evaluate both your own work and peers' creations.

Immerse yourself in Sheffield's vibrant literary scene through public readings, university events, and literary festivals. You'll have opportunities to publish your work and engage in student-led editorial sessions with peer feedback.
