This broad-based program is ideal if you're undecided about your civil engineering specialization. The initial two years focus on foundational subjects including structural engineering, water infrastructure, fluid mechanics, and geotechnical mechanics, covering both analytical and design aspects.
Later stages of the program delve into specialized water engineering topics like coastal engineering, groundwater systems, fluid dynamics, flood management, sustainable drainage, and water resource management. You'll also undertake an independent research project.
Your final year features a semester-long Integrated Design Project where you'll conceptualize an urban regeneration scheme for an actual Sheffield location. This ambitious project lets you explore innovative design techniques and construction materials while developing comprehensive plans for structures like sophisticated bridges, eco-friendly high-rises, or cutting-edge sports facilities. This hands-on experience provides valuable insight into real-world engineering challenges.
Instruction is provided by research-focused academics and industry-experienced educators.
The curriculum progressively challenges you with complex problem-solving while ensuring mastery of core engineering concepts. Final-year specialization modules build upon this foundation, preparing you to graduate as a versatile, skilled engineer capable of tackling global engineering challenges.
