The foundation year of this program offers students with non-traditional entry requirements comprehensive academic preparation to successfully transition into degree-level studies within the School of English. Upon completing the foundation year, students will advance to the BA English Literature program.
This preparatory year is thoughtfully structured to boost your confidence, cultivate key academic and learning techniques, and deliver specialized subject knowledge crucial for achievement. You'll learn within the Department for Lifelong Learning, which brings nearly four decades of expertise in supporting mature students to realize their potential for higher education success.

Be prepared for the demands that undergraduate degree level study will place upon you
Be 21 or over (see below for advice for younger applicants)
A minimum GCSE grade D/3 in Mathematics (or equivalent) may also be required. A GCSE grade C/4 may be required for some science programmes.
IELTS - Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, TOEFL - Overall score of 80 with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking and 17 in Writing, Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI - Overall score of 56 with a minimum of 51 in each component.
