We invite submissions for both practice-based and conventional doctoral research in areas including performer training, live art, site-specific performance, experimental theatre, interdisciplinary creative work, intercultural performance, somatic practices, performance and spirituality, and popular performance (encompassing stand-up comedy and burlesque). Our team is also experienced in guiding collaborative and co-authored research initiatives.
This full-time or part-time PhD program is designed for individuals with specific research inquiries who wish to pursue independent study to generate novel insights in their field. It represents the ideal pathway for those pursuing an academic research career.
You'll receive guidance from a dedicated supervisory team led by a Director of Studies, while participating in professional development opportunities and presenting your work in academic forums.
Assessment involves either a traditional written dissertation (around 80,000 words) or a combined submission integrating scholarly writing with creative/professional practice, followed by an oral defense.
For those without a master's qualification, we offer alternative research pathways including our ResM in Theatre and Performance (with potential PhD progression for outstanding candidates) or MPhil options.
Full-time duration: 3-4 years.
