This program stands as one of the UK's most enduring, with roots tracing back to the late 1990s. Our postgraduate scholars have published works across various formats and earned numerous prestigious accolades, such as nominations for The Forward First Book Prize for Poetry, securing a two-book contract with Headline, claiming the £10,000 Ballymaloe Poetry Prize, and winning the Manchester Metropolitan Novella Award (see Jamie Edgecombe's student profile below).
We foster a vibrant and supportive postgraduate community, built on creative collaboration and academic engagement with other faculty departments. Our distinguished alumni include Miriam Darlington (writer of Owl Sense and Nature Notebook columnist for The Times), In's G. Labarta (author of The Three Lives of St Ciarn, a novel that merges literary fiction with speculative elements, historical themes, and magical realism), and Anthony Caleshu (creator of The Victor Poems and founder of Periplum press).
Full-time duration: 3-4 years.
