Plymouth is rapidly emerging as an international hub for cutting-edge marine and robotic autonomy research. You'll gain access to specialized facilities like our COAST and Robotics Laboratories for your thesis work.

This intensive one-year program explores fundamental concepts of this evolving discipline: sensor systems for machine awareness, adaptive AI and machine learning, embedded technologies, secure communications, and data handling for reliable autonomous operations. The curriculum also addresses ethical considerations surrounding public adoption of these technologies. Developed in collaboration with industry partners, the program features expert-led seminars and guest lectures.
The MSc in Autonomous Systems provides both theoretical knowledge and hands-on expertise, preparing graduates for diverse career paths across multiple sectors including defense, healthcare, law enforcement, automotive, robotics, maritime, aerospace, e-commerce, and finance.

Qualification Requirements

We expect students to have achieved at least a 2.2 or equivalent in their undergraduate degree in engineering, mathematics, robotics, marine, computing and physical science-related subjects.

Applicants with overseas qualifications can check their comparability with the UK equivalent through Ecctis, which provides an advisory service.

The minimum IELTS score for acceptable English proficiency for entry is normally 6.5 with scores of 5.5 in all elements.
