Chemists play a crucial role in addressing major societal issues such as sustainability, healthcare, energy solutions, and environmental protection. Our program emphasizes problem-solving, communication, and project management to prepare graduates for applying their chemistry expertise. Guided by leading researchers, students acquire both theoretical knowledge and hands-on laboratory experience essential for diverse chemistry careers.

Study in our ISO 9001 certified labs, where undergraduates gain rare access to professional-grade laboratory training. Plymouth's Chemistry program ranks 14th in the Guardian University Guide 2021, leading the UK for feedback satisfaction, placing 2nd for teaching quality and value-added scores, and ranking 6th for course satisfaction.

The skills developed through our degree program make graduates highly sought-after across various industries. While some apply their chemistry expertise directly in pharmaceutical R&D or analytical laboratory roles (such as in food or beverage industries), many graduates enter interdisciplinary teams in science, engineering, healthcare, environmental, and technology fields.

Graduates can utilize their advanced skills in diverse fields including marketing, science communication, law, information technology, administration, or finance. Global opportunities exist, particularly in multinational pharmaceutical companies. Many graduates pursue postgraduate studies, including master's and PhD programs, to specialize and enhance research capabilities. Teaching careers at primary or secondary levels also remain viable options.
