This four-year program begins with a foundation year covering mathematics, physics, and introductory engineering concepts, similar to A-level content, and includes a project component.

The foundation year forms a crucial part of the extended degree, with instruction from experienced university faculty. While this preparatory year doesn't result in a standalone qualification, it prepares students to advance confidently into Plymouth Business School's range of programs.
Our institution ranks eighth globally (and first among UK universities) for Marine/Ocean Engineering in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
Successful completion of the foundation year guarantees progression to the first year of our professionally accredited civil or civil and coastal engineering degrees.
We have a proven history of students transitioning successfully from the foundation year to excel in their selected degree programs.
Receive a supportive introduction to essential mathematics and science concepts crucial for civil engineering studies.
Access specialized civil engineering materials, including a relevant project during the second term.
Our upcoming engineering and design facility will provide students across engineering, science, and arts disciplines with cutting-edge laboratories and specialized equipment.
Learn from our team of professionally accredited educators and researchers, including faculty who will continue teaching you throughout your degree.
Our approachable staff maintain an open-door policy, always available to discuss your work and provide support.
Consultations with lecturers help you make well-informed decisions about your degree specialization as you near the end of your first year.
The foundation year is a fundamental component of the extended degree program, serving as a gateway to Year 1 of your chosen degree rather than offering a separate qualification.
