Discover the cross-cultural social, political, historical, and philosophical factors that define societies and enhance our understanding of global interactions. The Comparative Literature PhD program provides research supervision across all areas of comparative literature and cultural studies, spanning from the Medieval period to contemporary times. Our program excels particularly in the cultural frameworks of:

French and Francophone studies
Hispanic and Lusophone studies

Chinese studies

Qualification Requirements

A first degree with at least 2:1, or an equivalent qualification (BA in Literature, Languages, Cultural Studies or similar subject) and ideally some knowledge of a European language other than English. We would usually expect you to hold or be working towards a masters degree in a relevant subject. IELTS - 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in each element), TOEFL (iBT) - 100 (with a minimum of 20 in speaking and 19 in all other elements)
