This research area examines the ways art objects have been gathered, observed, and debated throughout history and in contemporary times. Although museums and collecting practices—both public and private—naturally receive significant focus, an equally vital component involves studying how artworks are presented and how shifting temporal perspectives influence their current significance. Revivals play a key role in understanding why certain art objects gain or lose prominence in both popular taste and scholarly discourse. While much of the group's academic work centers on European and North American contexts, the impact of imperialism and cross-cultural interactions remains a crucial element. This encompasses exchanges between Eastern and Western traditions, as well as societal and individual perceptions of foreign cultures.
