Judaism represents a faith and way of life that has consistently embraced remarkable diversity within its community, evolving through continuous exchange with neighboring cultures and belief systems. Our department examines Judaism's expansive history from its roots in the Ancient Near East, spanning the Second-Temple and Rabbinic eras, right up to contemporary times. We place special emphasis on its historical settings, the progression of its intellectual and philosophical thought, and its dynamic relationships with non-Jewish civilizations, religions, and schools of thought.
