Understanding the past through available evidence—be it ancient texts, sculptures, or archaeological findings—relies on interpretive methods. The Department emphasizes the evolution of scholarship, hermeneutic approaches, how historical cultures have been passed down and reinterpreted over time, and critical analysis of disciplinary distinctions when examining texts, visual artifacts, and archaeological data. Through this work, our research supports a core element of historical inquiry.
