Nottingham, along with its collaborating institutions in this CDT (Cardiff and Sheffield), boasts cutting-edge experimental and computational resources for investigating the transition to a fossil fuel-free energy future and how this shift can be achieved rapidly and securely. Our approach recognizes that progress in this field requires diverse technological solutions alongside public and societal support, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across all relevant areas.
During your first year, you'll participate in a structured training program covering specialized technical skills related to your research focus, as well as broader competencies in research methodology, project planning, communication, and professional development. You'll also engage with your industry sponsor throughout this period.
This training occurs alongside a cohort of students from all participating universities and across different CDT years, facilitating idea exchange and building a valuable professional network.
After completing this year, you'll develop a literature review on your approved research topic (determined with your sponsor) and a detailed research plan. The subsequent three years will be dedicated to executing this research while periodically participating in cohort activities to maintain connections with peers. Your project may be based at the University, with your sponsor, or divided between both locations.
