The Energy and Environment research theme offers a specialization option within our Engineering research programs (MPhil, PhD). As one of the School's three primary research areas, Energy and Environment focuses on advancing energy solutions while addressing the growing need for sustainable, low-carbon technologies that minimize environmental harm. The transition to cleaner energy systems faces significant challenges due to mandatory CO2 emission reductions. Current targets from the Committee on Climate Change call for an 80% emissions cut by 2050 and complete power sector decarbonization by 2030. With the global low-carbon market valued at US$3 trillion and substantial job growth projected in this sector, Cardiff School of Engineering is actively preparing professionals for this economic shift through innovative research.
