Course introductionAre you passionate about great literature? Or maybe you've been curious about how language functions and evolves over time? If you enjoy literary works and want to explore the deeper mechanics behind your favorite texts, this program is perfect for you. We'll examine English literature across different eras while tracing the evolution of the language itself. This involves analyzing the purposes, themes, concepts, methods, values, and cultural importance of literary pieces within their historical settings. You'll also have opportunities to enhance your creative writing skills under the guidance of our faculty members, who are accomplished published poets and authors.With our extensive selection of optional modules covering diverse topics from Viking literature to theatrical studies, you can uncover new interests, deepen existing passions, and customize your degree to align with your specific academic interests.We're proud to be recognized among the UK's top 20 institutions for English studies (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 and Complete University Guide 2024).Assessment structureOur program follows a modular format, featuring primarily year-long modules in the first year and semester-based modules in subsequent years. Most modules include assessments at two key points: mid-module and at the conclusion.Evaluation methods– We employ various assessment approaches including coursework (essays, textual analysis exercises, research projects, and dissertations), oral presentations, performances, and written exams. Qualification Requirements

A level – AAB, Required subjects: A in English literature or language (or combined) at A level; plus a GCSE at level 4 (grade C) or above in English, Excluded subjects: General studies, critical thinking and citizenship . IB score - 32 overall or 665 in Higher Level Certificates, IB requirements: Higher Level English grade 6. Consequently we treat all applicants with alternative qualifications (besides A-levels and the International Baccalaureate) on an individual basis, and we gladly accept students with a whole range of less conventional qualifications including: Access to HE Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTEC HND/HNC, BTEC Extended Diploma. RQF BTEC Nationals - RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma - unfortunately we are unable to accept this qualification on its own due to the subject specific requirements at A Level. Mixed qualifications accepted if taking A Level English alongside. BTEC National Extended Diploma DDD + A in A Level English, DD in BTEC Diploma + A in A Level English, D in BTEC Subsidiary Diploma/ Extended Certificate + AB including A in Level English. Access to HE Diploma- Pass Access to HE Diploma Humanities Pathway with 45 credits at level 3 of which 30 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit, 15 level 3 credits must be from English modules and 9 of these English credits must be at Distinction. For applicants whose first language is not English: IELTS 7.0 (no less than 6.0 in any element)TOEFL paper-based 600 (no less than 4.5 in TWE)TOEFL IBT 100 (no less than 19 in any element).
