Chemical process integration involves designing, optimizing, and controlling chemical and biochemical operations, with specialized expertise in oil and gas sectors like petroleum engineering. This approach applies to petroleum, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries, taking a comprehensive view of entire processes rather than isolated operations. Research in this field began in the 1980s, initially targeting energy efficiency through heat exchanger network design. These foundational concepts later expanded into broader applications. Learn more about this research here. The Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science leads globally in industry-focused research and education for chemical engineering disciplines.
