Our PhD/MPhil Plant Science program allows you to pursue a research initiative aimed at advancing knowledge in Plant Science. Addressing food security and nutritional needs amidst rising global populations and climate change presents significant contemporary challenges, especially when combined with the pursuit of sustainable biofuel and chemical alternatives. At Manchester, our research tackles these dual priorities by modifying plant growth to create higher-yielding, more nutritious, and stress-resistant varieties, while also utilizing plants and microalgae to produce eco-friendly biofuels, chemicals, and medications. We employ established model plants like Arabidopsis alongside crops and wild species, adopting interdisciplinary methods that foster collaboration across university departments. Our projects receive backing from various funding bodies and corporate partners. Graduates from this program build rewarding careers in plant science research, commercial sectors, or academic fields.
