Our PhD/MPhil Mental Health program allows you to pursue a customized research initiative aimed at advancing knowledge in Mental Health. These postgraduate research opportunities in mental health focus on personalized projects. Candidates are carefully paired with a primary academic advisor based on their research focus and qualifications. Each research student benefits from multiple supervisors, with our interdisciplinary teams spanning diverse fields beyond mental health and psychology—such as nursing, pharmacy, epidemiology, biostatistics, informatics, health economics, sociology, and qualitative research. Our faculty members possess world-class expertise in mental health research across all life stages. Key areas of specialization include: severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (including early-stage detection), dementia, depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, autism spectrum disorder, attachment disorders, self-harm and suicide, violent behaviors, forensic mental health, neurobiological and imaging research, and mental health epidemiology.

Qualification Requirements

Students need to hold, or be about to obtain, an Upper Second class Honours degree (or overseas equivalent) in a related subject area for entry to a PhD programme. A Lower Second class Honours degree may be considered if applicants also hold a Master's degree with a Merit classification. We require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall or TOEFL (iBT) 90.
