Our PhD/MPhil Developmental Biology program offers the opportunity to conduct a research project that advances knowledge in Developmental Biology. This field examines how complex organisms grow from fertilized eggs. Manchester's research explores the core mechanisms behind normal development and their disruption in diseases. Key focus areas include: pluripotency, cell differentiation and fate determination, organ formation and patterning, cellular signaling, epithelial growth and morphogenesis, developmental roles of cell adhesion, and genes linked to human disorders like heart, craniofacial, and skin abnormalities. The Healing Foundation Center studies tissue regeneration and repair at molecular and cellular levels. Our work employs diverse model organisms such as zebrafish, mice, Xenopus, Drosophila, chick, Dictyostelium, and Caenorhabditis elegans, along with cutting-edge techniques like genetic analysis, transgenics, gene targeting, expression studies, functional genomics, proteomics, advanced imaging, electron microscopy, and X-ray crystallography.
