The University of Manchester's Physics and Astronomy Department ranks among the UK's most prominent and dynamic physics faculties. With a distinguished history of academic and research achievements, we engage in nearly all modern research fields.
Our Department plays a key role in several interdisciplinary research centers across Manchester, including the National Graphene Institute, Photon Science Institute, Manchester Centre for Non-Linear Dynamics, and Dalton Nuclear Institute. We also oversee the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire.

Our Photon Physics research team explores light-matter interactions, employing light to study various innovative and significant systems. Their work spans from advancing quantum interaction theories to creating novel spectroscopic and microscopic methods for applications in materials science, healthcare, and biological studies.
