Our doctoral program in Drama provides opportunities for extensive research, culminating in either an 80,000-word dissertation or a practice-led research project. Manchester's Drama department focuses on three primary research areas: Theatre Studies, Applied Theatre, and Screen Studies - encompassing film, television, digital media, and practical film applications. Our faculty actively engages in these research domains, which frequently intersect, encouraging both staff and students to explore interdisciplinary connections. Central to our academic and creative pursuits is the concept of 'dialogue' - with concepts, methodologies, and communities. We frequently organize research projects funded by councils, conduct seminar programs, and hold academic conferences.
