Our PhD/MPhil program in Basic Dental Sciences allows you to pursue a research initiative aimed at advancing knowledge in this field. Basic dental sciences encompasses diverse areas including craniofacial genetics, stem cell research, and facial development studies. Craniofacial genetics Our work focuses on deciphering the fundamental processes of craniofacial formation and their disruption in congenital disorders. Our team has discovered genetic variants responsible for conditions like Treacher Collins syndrome, Van der Woude syndrome, amelogenesis imperfecta, and dentine dysplasia. These breakthroughs have enhanced patient care globally by enabling accurate genetic counseling for affected families. Stem cell biology Our research utilizes human embryonic stem cells (ESCs), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and cancer stem cells (CSCs) to investigate how adhesion molecules influence development, tumor formation, and cancer spread.
