This PhD program in Anthropology, Media, and Performance combines practical research with academic study. Co-supervised by the Drama department and the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology/Social Anthropology, the program starts with a foundational year of methodological training before you embark on approximately one year of fieldwork. During your final year, you'll return to Manchester to compile and present your findings through written work or other media formats. The program objectives include: exposing you to interdisciplinary approaches blending anthropology, performance studies, and media production to generate new academic insights, teaching contemporary theories and critical research methodologies across these disciplines, equipping you with practical fieldwork techniques and media skills for your year-long research project, and guiding you to produce both a written thesis and creative media/performance outputs.
