The Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology, a three-year full-time professional training program, has received approval from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This program covers the British Psychological Society's (BPS) essential curriculum through five key units: Professional Skills, Development (Ages 0-25), Learning Contexts for Children, Research in Educational Psychology, and Mental Health and Well-being. Upon completion, graduates qualify for HCPC registration as Educational Psychologists - a mandatory requirement for professional practice under this title. Students who partially complete the program may receive an MPhil exit award, though this doesn't qualify them for HCPC registration as practitioner psychologists.

Students must have one of the following: Bachelors degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1); conversion course conferring eligibility for GBCM (minimum Merit); psychology-based master's degree (minimum Merit). Candidates whose first language is not English require one of the following certificates: IELTS test minimum scores - 7 overall, 7 writing, 6 other sections; TOEFL (internet based) test minimum scores - 100 overall, 25 writing, 22 other sections; Pearson Test of English (PTE) minimum scores - 66 overall, 66 writing, 59 other sections; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - overall score of 185 or above, with writing 185 and no other sub-section below 169, or Grade C if taken before 2015; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - overall score of 185 or above, with writing 185 and no other sub-section below 169, or Grade B if taken before 2015.
