The fields of sociology and languages are fundamentally interconnected. Understanding society requires examining language, just as studying language necessitates considering its social framework. This program will push you to explore the structure of our social environments and how language and culture construct and influence these realms. You'll examine both social dynamics and transformation, ranging from how inequalities persist across social divisions (like race, class, or gender) to how broader cultural settings affect personal relationships. You'll enhance your linguistic abilities while gaining insight into the cultures and histories tied to your chosen language. During the third year of this four-year course, you'll spend time living abroad, either studying or working in a nation where your target language is spoken. Our goal is to equip you with analytical, research, and language competencies, fostering independent thinking and preparing you to operate confidently in both English and an additional language.
