The fields of sociology and languages are fundamentally interconnected. Understanding society requires examining language, just as analyzing language necessitates considering its social framework. This program will push you to explore the fabric of our social environments and how linguistic and cultural elements construct and influence these realms. You'll examine both societal structures and transformations, ranging from how inequalities persist across social divisions (like race, class, or gender) to how broader cultural settings influence personal connections. Alongside building advanced linguistic abilities, you'll gain insights into the histories and cultures associated with your chosen language. During the third year of this four-year course, you'll spend time living abroad, either studying or working in a nation where your target language is spoken. We strive to cultivate your analytical, research, and language capabilities, equipping you to become autonomous thinkers and scholars proficient in both English and an additional language.
