This combined program delivers an exceptional blend of Philosophical and Religious Studies. You'll examine sacred scriptures and global philosophies from diverse religious traditions, while engaging with works from renowned Western thinkers. The curriculum delves into compelling discussions about human nature, divine concepts, faith versus skepticism, reality, knowledge, and how we perceive understanding itself. You'll master multiple analytical approaches to these profound inquiries, with Manchester's unique focus: in Religious Studies, we provide comprehensive exploration of various faiths and their texts, particularly highlighting their practical societal influence; in Philosophy, we cover both Analytic and Continental traditions. Analytic Philosophy focuses on conceptual precision and linguistic analysis, shaping much of Anglo-American thought. Continental Philosophy encompasses philosophical movements from 19th-20th century Europe, including structuralism, hermeneutics, existentialism, phenomenology, and deconstruction.
