Lancaster's History, Philosophy, and Politics program offers a unique triple major degree, combining expertise from both the History Department and the Politics, Philosophy, and Religion Department. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to explore Intellectual History, Philosophy, and Politics in depth while examining their interconnected relationships.
During the first year, students complete three foundational modules: From Ancient to Modern: History and Historians, Introduction to Philosophy, and Politics in the Modern World, providing comprehensive grounding in each field.
The second and third years feature diverse elective modules examining influential historical periods, philosophical movements, and political theories that continue to impact our modern world. As William Faulkner famously observed, "The past is never dead. It's not even past."
