The Joint Honours Film Studies program offers comprehensive training in cinematic history and core theoretical frameworks, while allowing you to explore specialized topics. Through structured courses and film screenings, you'll engage with both classic and modern cinema from diverse global traditions. The curriculum examines mainstream and alternative films to deepen your knowledge of cinematic evolution and contemporary industry discussions. As you refine your analytical abilities, you'll explore cinema's relationship with social, cultural, and political issues - situating films within their historical periods while considering modern discourse and future media challenges. This program focuses on academic film analysis rather than hands-on production. The Russian component delivers foundational training in regional studies, integrating language acquisition with cultural and societal understanding. Guided independent study strengthens grammatical and lexical proficiency. Instruction comes from native Russian speakers and highly proficient English-Russian bilinguals, supported by organized self-directed language practice.
