The BA (Hons) Animation program guides you in merging creative visuals with sound and timing to produce captivating animated content. Throughout this program, you'll master: concept development, narrative visualization, storyboard creation, script composition, audio production, character creation, motion techniques, avant-garde animation, both 2D and 3D animation, stop-motion techniques, film editing, and visual effects. You'll have access to industry-standard tools like Adobe and Autodesk software, updated yearly. Specialized animation tools include Maya, Mudbox, TV Paint, After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, alongside traditional materials like pencils, paper, and clay for bringing ideas to life.What makes this program special

Theoretical components examine animation's historical context and contemporary practices, covering cinematic techniques, storytelling methods, and genre exploration.Drawing remains animation's cornerstone, serving both as a movement study tool and creative outlet. You'll also develop essential skills in production planning, video post-production, and digital audio.Our program is housed in the state-of-the-art Screen School complex.This innovative facility represents our commitment to regional development, preparing students for emerging creative careers while supporting local economic growth. Continuous curriculum updates ensure alignment with industry demands and regional opportunities, establishing the West Midlands as a hub for screen-based innovation.Animation and Game Design students enjoy exclusive access to specialized resources including our Motion Capture Studio, green screen facilities, and adaptable production spaces.Our sound recording studio and gaming lab, equipped with high-performance PCs and consoles, support both development and esports activities. The Animation Department features Wacom Cintiq tablets and dedicated stop-motion stations, while all students benefit from expansive collaborative workspaces.
