The Joint Honours in Film Studies offers comprehensive training in cinematic history and core theoretical frameworks, while allowing you to explore specialized topics. Through structured courses and curated screenings, you'll engage with both classic and modern films from diverse global traditions. The program examines both commercial and independent cinema to deepen your knowledge of film's evolution and the critical discussions influencing its present and future. As you refine your analytical abilities, you'll explore cinema's relationship with social, cultural, and political issues, situating films within their historical periods while considering contemporary discourse and emerging challenges for the medium. This program focuses on scholarly approaches to film rather than hands-on production. The Italian curriculum integrates historical, political, literary, linguistic, and visual studies, led by subject experts. Students can follow a linguistics track focusing on Italian language development and regional variations. Language instruction, provided by native speakers at various proficiency levels, includes comprehension, translation, grammar, and conversation practice. Our innovative Italian teaching methods have earned institutional and national recognition, including a Teaching Excellence Award and grants for incorporating digital tools that transform archival materials into interactive learning resources.
