The Joint Honours in Film Studies offers comprehensive training in film theory and history, while allowing you to explore specialized interests alongside your studies of East Asian culture and history. Through structured courses and film screenings, you'll engage with both classic and modern cinema from diverse global traditions. The program examines both mainstream and independent films to deepen your knowledge of cinematic history and contemporary discussions influencing the art form's evolution. As you refine your analytical abilities, you'll explore cinema's relationship with social, cultural, and political issues - situating films within their historical framework while considering present discourses and future directions for the medium. This program focuses primarily on historical and theoretical film studies rather than hands-on production work.
