The BA in English Literature and History enables you to examine literary works through a historical lens. This program treats both English Literature and History as distinct yet interconnected disciplines. Our curriculum spans centuries, from the Anglo-Saxon era to contemporary times, while encompassing global perspectives through postcolonial literature and worldwide historical studies. Faculty members are experts in their domains, offering comprehensive coverage of English literary traditions and British historical developments while fostering interdisciplinary connections. Students enjoy extensive specialization options and can utilize Manchester's exceptional archival resources, especially for Medieval and Victorian studies. As part of the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures (SALC), you'll join an academic community with a strong tradition of cross-disciplinary learning.
