This three-year BA in American Studies provides comprehensive knowledge of US history, culture, and literature, spanning from colonial times to the present day.
At Manchester, we teach students to recognize the undercurrents in American history and literature, with special focus on topics like racial issues, economic systems, gender identity, working-class cultures, and social movements.

You'll develop expertise in interdisciplinary methods from fields such as cultural studies, historical analysis, visual arts, literary criticism, and political science. Additionally, you'll gain skills in critically examining and debating diverse source materials.

Qualification Requirements

A-level Grades ABB to include an essay-based subject such as English, History or Politics. A-level exams should be taken at the same sitting, after no more than two years of study. If you have studied an advanced curriculum, where the examinations are spread over three years, consideration for an offer will be at the discretion of the admissions tutor. We may also require further information, in order to make an informed judgment on your application. GCSE Applicants must demonstrate a broad general education including acceptable levels of Literacy and Numeracy, equivalent to at least Grade C or 4 in GCSE/iGCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE/iGCSE English Literature will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE/iGCSE English Language. International Baccalaureate 34 points overall. 6,5,5 in Higher Level subjects IELTS 7.0 overall with no less than 6.5 in any one component, TOEFL iBT - 100
