Veterinary Pathology focuses on investigating illnesses in animals, covering both naturally occurring conditions and experimental research on diseases affecting humans and animals through animal models. The University of Liverpool's Institute of Infection and Global Health unites top researchers from medical, veterinary, and basic science disciplines within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

At the University of Liverpool, Veterinary Pathology research spans various disease areas, such as infections (caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites), immunopathology, cancer, neurological disorders, degenerative conditions, toxicology, and pharmaceutical safety.

Our studies employ diverse in situ morphological techniques, with specialized skills in immunohistology and electron microscopy, alongside molecular approaches. We examine a wide range of species, including pets, livestock, wildlife, zoo animals, and laboratory specimens.

Operating across the Leahurst and Liverpool campuses, we offer postgraduate programs for veterinarians pursuing specialization in veterinary pathology (DiplECVP, FRCPath) or research degrees (PhD).

Beyond our group's expertise, we maintain strong partnerships with clinical and non-clinical researchers at the University of Liverpool and beyond. Collaborative postgraduate projects with the Centre for Drug Safety Science, potentially including infectious disease research, are also offered.
