The English Department engages in research across all core disciplines: literature, linguistics, and creative writing. We strive to advance globally recognized work in these fields while building strategic collaborations, especially with regional and national cultural institutions, to extend our research's impact. Renowned internationally, our department offers students research-driven education encompassing diverse literary, linguistic, and applied linguistic studies. This cultivates essential critical thinking, communication abilities, and adaptable intelligence valued across modern professions.
Our distinguished faculty covers English literature from medieval to modern eras, alongside specialized language studies including sociolinguistics, pragmatics, stylistics, philosophy of language, discourse analysis, and applied linguistics. Creative writing programs are guided by published, award-winning authors with expertise in critical and creative composition, particularly poetry/poetics and international translated works. Students may also pursue a dual-degree option, splitting their studies between the University of Liverpool and Paris-Diderot University.
