This MRes program, along with the Latin American Studies MRes and Film Studies MRes, offers a tailored introduction to advanced research. It empowers you to grow as an autonomous scholar while developing an innovative research initiative with support from modern languages and cultures experts.
Specializations include Basque studies, Catalan studies, Chinese studies, French studies, German studies, Hispanic studies, Italian studies, Portuguese studies, sociolinguistics, Spanish studies, and translation studies. Your degree title will correspond to your chosen specialization.

Regardless of your specialization, the program delivers comprehensive preparation for PhD research and professional advancement. The research methodology training will be adapted to modern languages and cultural studies, as well as your particular research focus, while providing a thorough examination of current scholarship in your chosen area. You'll collaborate to create a personalized reading list and customized assessment tasks leading to a substantial research output.
Under the mentorship of active researchers from the Department of Languages, Culture and Film, you'll learn to formulate research proposals, locate pertinent sources and evidence, organize and conduct investigations, and effectively analyze and present your results.
