This MRes program delivers a customized pathway into advanced research, transforming you into an autonomous scholar capable of producing original work with mentorship from archival experts.
The course offers rigorous training for academic research and professional development. We'll walk you through each research phase while building essential transferable skills like analytical reasoning, project coordination, effective communication, and creative problem-solving.
Your methodological training will focus specifically on archival investigation and your unique research plan. Together with faculty, you'll craft a personalized reading list and customized evaluation components leading to a substantial research output.
Learn to formulate research questions, locate pertinent sources, design and execute investigations, then interpret and share results. Theoretical archival principles will be reinforced through practical experience, including a two-week archival placement to refine cataloging abilities and evaluate your descriptive techniques.
You'll receive mentorship from the History Department's research-active faculty. Our MRes supervisors conduct cutting-edge archival work ranging from medieval document preservation to modern transparency initiatives and governmental record systems.
