Virology focuses on examining viruses that cause illnesses in humans and animals. This field explores virulence mechanisms, viral spread patterns, and how immune systems respond to viral infections. Virology research takes place in modern facilities within the Ronald Ross and ic2 Buildings on the university's main city campus. Our work investigates the disease-causing properties, detection methods, spread patterns, and immune reactions to various viruses, including flaviviruses (like Japanese encephalitis and Zika), Ebola, Chikungunya, HIV, respiratory syncytial virus, cytomegalovirus, and herpesviruses. Research techniques involve diagnostic testing, flow cytometry, ELISA, epidemiological studies, transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics, and infection modeling.

The research objectives include understanding how pathogens spread and behave during infections, with the goal of developing improved treatments and vaccines to enhance human health.
