Infectious illnesses continue to pose significant global challenges for both humans and animals. At IGH, we investigate numerous critical infectious diseases affecting people and animals, including zoonotic conditions that spread between species. Our research spans the UK, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The Institute of Infection and Global Health at the University of Liverpool was created to unite top medical, veterinary, and fundamental science researchers from throughout the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
Human-focused Infection and Global Health research encompasses fundamental, clinical, and population-based studies of various neurological, digestive, respiratory, vector-borne, and sexually-transmitted infections in both adults and children.
Animal-related Infection and Global Health research primarily occurs at the Leahurst campus, where diverse experts - including veterinary and medical clinicians, statisticians, mathematicians, and basic scientists - collaborate to tackle numerous challenges. These include examining zoonotic pathogens, tracking antimicrobial resistance spread, analyzing human behavior's role in disease transmission, managing infectious diseases in livestock and pets, and studying environmental and climatic impacts on disease spread.
